MERC's Mission:The Michigan Education Reform Club is a NEW club that provides a safe space for education reform dialogue to occur about educational topics that are not present in the undergraduate school of education program. It will give undergraduates a voice and opportunity to work with and learn from administrators, professors, researchers, grad students, and each other on a variety of educational topics. Club members will also have the chance to connect with the local community through tutoring and direct service to youth, as well as participate in Club projects like TEACH OUT! and Reform Meform. Our goal is to extend our opportunities to think about learning and about schooling and reform, and thus to be better prepared and more empowered to serve the students that we will teach. The club will accomplish this goal by producing a change in the very consciousness of beginning teachers, illuminating the strands that connect us all, as we navigate the delicious ambiguity between student, student-teacher, and professional.
